Leadership - Physician Medical Management CEJKA EXECUTIVE January 01,2017 The Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invite applications and nominations for the position of Chief and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. 

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has a rich history, dating back to the late 1890s when the Mallory Institute of Pathology formally opened in Boston City Hospital. Today the department comprises a robust clinical service and state of the art research facilities which include more than 20,000 square feet of anatomic lab space. The clinical service at BMC carries two CLIA licenses and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Anatomic Pathology covers a range of subspecialties with focused expertise in GI, GU and Breast Pathology as well as neuropathology, renal pathology, hematopathology, molecular pathology and genetics and cytopathology.  Focused research interests for the department include cancer biology, sepsis and inflammation, neuroscience-neuropathology, thrombosis, biobanking science, amyloidosis and molecular pathways. 

The new Chair will provide outstanding leadership to the clinical, teaching, and research programs within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Chair will provide leadership and support to the department’s well-established clinical programs and establish collaborative research partnerships within the department, medical center, university, cancer center and external commercial and nonprofit organizations. The Chair will recruit top faculty; develop and enhance educational programs for medical students, residents and fellows; and expand research programs and resources. In addition, the Chair will pursue innovation and excellence in each of the core missions of the section.

Successful candidates for the Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine must be respected academicians with excellent clinical, teaching and research skills.  Candidates must have demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience as a Chair, Division Chief or similar key leadership position and proven success in leading a diverse, complex and well-balanced department to achieve growth, loyalty and quality goals of the institution and the Department. A strong commitment to education and research, with the ability to recruit top faculty leaders is required. The Department supports active research throughout the organization and the Chairman must be able to evaluate scientific quality and support an environment that attracts and retains quality research within the Department. Candidates must be Board Certified in Pathology and qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
